The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Management Shift Comes After Mixed Response

Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing unveiling last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified employees about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a more defined vision.

The president expressed that the developers is now reimagining the project with a revised vision, aiming to address gamer demands.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

This announcement follows a similar move taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the full content from Ismailer's memo:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just completed your town hall - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the chance to work with - and we’re eager for that relationship to persist.”

With your dedication and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a more distinct brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to heart and overhauled the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our fans.

The trust in this project increases every day. To boost the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the incoming Director of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, he comes aboard us on the specified date.

His leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter field is vast, having devoted the recent years creating and leading some of the most popular franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in greeting him soon. We are all eager to keep observing the evolution of the game in the time to follow.

The President

Background of the New Head

The appointee presently serves in the position of executive producer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He previously worked at major gaming companies in diverse development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Information and Vision

The upcoming game was revealed in last year alongside a early access event. Initially, the developers described the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative evolution on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the description explains. "Challenge the rivals with unique powers, stakes, and challenges that shift every round. Do you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Or aim high, gamble everything, and hope your team can secure victory? The decision is in your hands."

Project Ethos lacks an announced debut schedule or platforms, but fans can look forward to additional details as development advances.
